Message of Islam

Imam Hussain ibn Ali (A.S.): "Those who worship Allah for the hope of gaining, they're not real worshippers, they are merchants. Those who worship Allah out of fear ( of punishment ), they are slaves. And those who worship Allah to be grateful towards their creator, they are the free people, and their worship is a real one."

.....

O assembly of jinn and men! did there not come to you apostles from among you, relating to you My communications and warning you of the meeting of this day of yours? They shall say: We bear witness against ourselves; and this world's life deceived them, and they shall bear witness against their own souls that they were unbelievers.
[The Cattle (6), 130]

Hearts on that day shall palpitate,

Their eyes cast down.
[The Draggers (79), 8-9]

Imam Sadiq (a.s.) said: "Verily everything is intimidated by a believer because the religion of Allah causes him to be powerful, and he is not intimidated by anything, which is the characteristic of any believer." - Biharul Anwar, vol. 67, p. 30

Imam Khomeini wrote that, "…the inward being of the impatient person is full of anxiety and alarm. His heart is full of tremors and shaky, and this is itself the greatest calamity that can befall a human being and deprive him of peace."

'A free human being is free in all circumstances. Should a misfortune befall him he bears it with patience (sabr). If calamities strike him, they don't shatter him.'

Do not force your children to behave like you, for surely they have been created for a time which is different to your time.

Imam Ali [AS]

And others which you have not yet been able to achieve Allah has surely encompassed them, and Allah has power over all things.

The Imam of Scholars and Knowledge : Imam Sadiq (AS)

As far as the knowledge of the Imams of Ahlul Bayt is concerned, it is sufficient to say that Imam Jafar as Sadiq (AS) was the teacher of the two Sunni Imams, i.e., Abu Hanifa al-Numan and Malik Ibn Anas. Abu Hanifa al-Numan said: "Except for the two years Numan would have starved," referring to the two years he had benefited from the knowledge of Imam Jafar as Sadiq (AS). Although Abu Hanifa al-Numan did not become a Jafri, he learned the various religious sciences in these two years.

Malik Ibn Anas also confessed straightforwardly that he had not met anyone learned in Islamic Jurisprudence better than Imam Jafar as Sadiq (AS).

"Abu Hanifa al-Numan! People have become so infatuated with Imam Jafar as Sadiq (AS) and placed him far too highly in their esteem. Therefore, I want you to prepare some very difficult questions which you will put to him in my presence and in front of other scholars." These were the instructions given to Abu Hanifa al-Numan by Al-Mansur the second Abbasid Caliph. Much as he loved Imam Jafar as Sadiq (AS) and respected his scholarly achievement, Abu Hanifa al-Numan had no choice but to comply with the Caliph's request.

Therefore, he prepared 40 such questions and waited for a call from the Caliph, which soon arrived. He went to him to find Imam Jafar as Sadiq (AS) sitting with him as well as many other people. As he looked at Imam Jafar as Sadiq (AS), he was in awe of him much more than of the Caliph. Al-Mansoor asked Abu Hanifa al-Numan to put his questions to Imam Jafar as Sadiq (AS) and he did, one by one. He answered all questions in detail.

Needless to say, these were questions on issues subject to much controversy among scholars. Imam Jafar as Sadiq (AS) said in his answer to each question, as reported by Abu Hanifa al-Numan: "You, i.e. the scholars of Iraq, say so and so, but the scholars of Madinah say such and such, while our own view is the following. He may agree with us or with the scholars of Madinah or may disagree with us all, elucidating his own opinion. None of the 40 questions represented any difficulty for him."

Such was the standing of Imam Jafar as Sadiq (AS) whom Abu Hanifa al-Numan describes as the 'most learned scholar I have ever seen.' This is in line with Abu Hanifa al-Numan's criterion which states: "The most learned scholar is the one who knows best the differences among scholars."

Allah: Arabic name for God, Allah the most Merciful, Allah the Creator and Lord of the Universe

Allah is the standard Arabic name for "God". The term is best known in the west for its use by Muslims as a reference to God. Arabic-speakers of all faiths, including Christians and Jews, use the word Allah to mean "God". The Muslim and Christian Arabs of today have no other word for "God" than Allah.

In Islam, Allah is the only deity, transcendent creator of the universe, and the judge of humankind. Some Islamic scholars feel that "Allah" should not be translated, because they perceive the Arabic word to express the uniqueness of "Allah" more accurately than the word "god" for two reasons:

1. The word "god" can take a plural form "gods", whereas the word "Allah" has no plural form.

2. The word "god" can have gender as male god or female god (called goddess) whereas the word "Allah" does not have gender.

Tawhid (Tawheed, Tauheed) is the Islamic concept of monotheism (Oneness of God). In Islam, Tawhid means to assert the unity of Allah. The opposite of Tawhid is Shirk, which means "division" in Arabic, referring to idolatry.

Shaykh Saduq, one of the most distinguished of Shi'a scholars expressed: "Verily, God is One, Unique, nothing is like Him, He is Eternal; Hearing, Seeing, Omniscient, Living, Omnipotent, above every need. He cannot be described in terms of substance, nor body, nor form, nor accident, nor line, nor surface, nor heaviness, nor lightness, nor color, nor movement, nor rest, nor time, nor space. He is above all the descriptions which can be applied to His creatures. He is away from both extremes: Neither He is just a non-entity (as atheists and in a lesser degree Mutazilites implied), nor He is just like other things. He is Existent, not like other existing things."

Shi'a do not believe that God can or will ever be seen, and also reject the notion of Him having body parts, or any parts whatsoever.

In a new study, Vander Hoven, a psychologist from Netherlands, discovered the effect of reading the Noble Qur'an and repeating the word ALLAH both on patients and on normal persons.

The Dutch professor confirms his discovery with studies and research applied on many patients over a period of three years. Some of his patients were non-Muslims, others don't speak Arabic and were trained to pronounce the word "Allah" clearly; their result was great, especially on those who suffer from dejection and tension.

Al-Watan, a Saudi daily has reported that the psychologist was quoted to say that Muslims who can read Arabic and who read the Noble Qur'an regularly are enjoying a great chance of protecting themselves from psychological diseases. The psychologist explained how each letter in the word "Allah" affects healing of psychological diseases. Vander Hoven pointed out in his research that pronouncing the first letter in the word "Allah" which is the letter (A), released from the respiratory system, controls breathing. He added that pronouncing the velar consonant (L) in the Arabic way, with the tongue touching slightly the upper part of the jaw producing a short pause and then repeating the same pause constantly, relaxes the aspiration. Also, pronouncing the last letter which is the letter (H) makes a contact between the lungs and the heart and so this contact controls the heartbeat.

What is exciting about this study is that this psychologist is a non-Muslim, but interested in Islamic sciences and searching for the secrets of the Noble Qur'an.

Allah (SWT), The Great and Glorious, says in the Noble Qur'an: "We will soon show them Our signs in the Universe and in their own souls, until it will become quite clear to them that it is the truth. Is it not sufficient as regards your Lord that He is a witness over all things?" (41:53)

"ALLAHU AKBAR [Allah (SWT) is great], Allah (SWT) keeps me going day and night. Without Allah (SWT), I am no one. But with Allah (SWT), I can do everything. Allah (SWT) is my strength."

Deviation from Religion

Ameerul Momineen (a.s.) was asked which is the minimum deviation from religion. Ameerul Momineen (a.s.) replied, ‘When man does not know whose obedience Allah has made obligatory and whose guardianship He has made binding upon the people and who He has appointed on the earth as His Proof and as a Witness upon His creatures. Then the narrator asked – Who are they O Ameerul Momineen (a.s.)? He (a.s.) replied – They are those who Allah has associated with Himself and His Prophet. Then he (a.s.) recited the verse - O you who believe! obey Allah and obey the Apostle and those in authority from among you…’ (Nisa: 59)
